DataHop Privacy Policy

DataHop sends files straight from one of your devices to another: iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and Windows PC, in any direction. This page explains everything DataHop stores, everything it sends anywhere, the ads it shows, and who else is involved.

Effective 20 September 2026Version 1.1Asoltu Tech by Nikhil Rokadiya

The short version

01

Your files are never uploaded. A transfer goes straight from one device to the other over an encrypted connection. We have no copy, and no access to it.

02

DataHop shows ads. The free app shows one full-screen ad from Google AdMob after every 2 completed transfers. The ads are non-personalized. An optional yearly subscription, Ad-Free, removes them.

03

A small relay helps devices find each other. It sees connection-setup data such as your device name and network address, never your files. Details are below.

04

No accounts in the apps, and nothing is sold. The iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and Windows apps have no sign-in. We do not sell personal information.

What DataHop is

DataHop transfers files directly between devices: iPhone and iPad to Android, Mac and Windows PC, and back again. Every combination works in both directions, including Android to iPhone, Mac to Windows, and so on. We name the other platforms in the app and on the App Store because they are real, supported devices you can send to and receive from.

Who is responsible for your data

Asoltu Tech by Nikhil Rokadiya, India, is the developer of DataHop. Contact us at info@asoltu.com for anything in this policy.

What stays on your device

This is written to the app's own storage on your device. It is not copied to us, and removing the app removes it.

  • Device name — the label you choose, such as "iPhone", shown to devices you transfer with.
  • Identity keys — a public key that identifies your device to others, and a private key kept in the device's secure storage. The private key is never displayed, logged or sent.
  • Trusted and blocked devices — your pairing decisions. You can change them any time in Devices.
  • Transfer history — file names, sizes, direction, time and status. Never the file contents.
  • Settings — for example theme and discovery preferences.
  • Files you receive — saved on your device. Photos and videos go to your Photos library (iPhone, iPad) or gallery (Android); other files go to the DataHop folder.

What leaves your device, and where it goes

Every kind of data DataHop sends off your device.
DataWhere it goesHow long it is kept
File contents Directly to the other device, over an encrypted peer-to-peer connection (DTLS). Not through our servers. Never stored by us
Connection setup
device name, random per-session device ID, network group, connection offers (SDP/ICE)
Our signalling relay at datahop.asoltu.com, so two devices on the same network can find and connect to each other. The connection offers contain the network addresses (IP addresses and ports) a device can be reached at. Kept in the server's memory only, never in a database. A device disappears from the list about 4 minutes after it goes quiet; connection offers are dropped after about 1 minute.
Network address
your public IP address
Seen by the relay with every request. The relay turns it into a one-way hash used only to group devices behind the same router (same Wi-Fi), so strangers on other networks never appear in your list. The hash is kept in memory with the entry above. The raw address appears only in standard hosting logs (next row).
Hosting logs The relay runs on Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Mumbai, India) behind Google Firebase Hosting. These services keep standard request logs: IP address, time, requested address, and app or browser type. For security and operations only. Google's default retention for these logs is up to 30 days.
Nearby broadcast Sent on your local Wi-Fi so DataHop devices next to you can see you: device name, IDs, local IP addresses and public key. Not stored. It stays on your local network.
Anonymous usage statistics
random install ID, app version, platform, language, region and time zone, first-open date, daily app-open counts and seconds
Our own Google Firebase project (Firestore), used only to count installs and active users. It is not linked to your name or any account, never includes file names, device names or contacts, and is not shared with advertisers. Only the developer can read it. Kept until you ask for it to be deleted (contact us), or the app is no longer in use.
Ad requests Google AdMob (Google LLC). See "Ads" below. Handled by Google under its own policies
Purchase Apple (iPhone, iPad) processes the Ad-Free purchase. See "In-app purchase" below. Handled by Apple. We never receive your payment details.
What the relay never sees. It never receives, relays or stores the bytes of your files, your file names, or the photos and documents you send. When both devices are on the same Wi-Fi they can also find each other directly on that network.

Ads

DataHop is free and paid for by ads. After every 2 completed transfers, the app may show one full-screen ad. Ads are served by Google AdMob through the Google Mobile Ads SDK.

  • Always non-personalized. DataHop asks for non-personalized ads only. It does not ask to track you, does not show the App Tracking Transparency prompt, and does not use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) to target ads. Non-personalized ads are not based on your past behavior, but Google's SDK may still use technical identifiers for frequency capping and aggregated ad reporting.
  • What Google may still collect. To deliver, measure and secure ads, Google's SDK may process technical data such as your IP address (which gives an approximate location, such as your country), device and app information, technical identifiers, the ads you have seen, how you interact with an ad, and crash and performance data. Google handles this under its own policies: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
  • Your consent. Where the law requires it (for example the EEA, UK and some other places), a Google consent form appears before any ad is requested. You can reopen it any time from Settings, Ads and Ad-Free, Ad privacy choices.
  • Your files are never part of this. Advertisers and Google never receive the files you transfer, their names, or your transfer history.
  • Remove ads. Subscribe to Ad-Free (see below) and the app stops requesting and showing ads while the subscription is active.

In-app purchase

On iPhone and iPad, Ad-Free is an auto-renewing yearly subscription (in India, ₹299 per year; the price for your country is shown in the app before you buy). It is bought through Apple's In-App Purchase and tied to your Apple Account. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews every year unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel it at any time in your Apple Account settings (Settings, your name, Subscriptions), or from Settings > Ads and Ad-Free > Manage subscription in the app. Apple processes the payment; DataHop never receives your card or payment details. The app only asks Apple whether your Apple Account has an active Ad-Free subscription, so it knows not to show ads. Use Restore purchase in Settings to get it back on a new device. Refunds are handled by Apple under its rules.

Ad-Free is offered in the iPhone and iPad app. On other platforms where Ad-Free is offered (currently Android), payment is handled by the payment provider shown at checkout, and we receive only the order and payment reference numbers needed to remember that you paid. The iPhone and iPad app never uses any payment method other than Apple's In-App Purchase.

Permissions, and why each one is needed

iPhone, iPad
To find and connect to other devices on your Wi-Fi.
Nearby Wi-Fi state, network and multicast
Android
To find devices on your Wi-Fi and tell a normal network from a hotspot.
CameraOnly to scan a pairing QR code. DataHop does not record video or take photos. Frames are read on your device and are not saved or sent.
PhotosTo let you choose photos to send, and to save photos and videos you receive. DataHop does not index or copy your library.
Microphone
declared, not used
Some WebRTC components can declare this permission. DataHop never records audio.

Other companies involved

CompanyRole
Google (AdMob, User Messaging Platform)Shows ads and asks for ad consent where required.
Google (Cloud Run, Firebase Hosting)Runs and delivers our signalling relay and this website.
AppleApp Store, In-App Purchase and StoreKit on iPhone and iPad.
Payment provider (Android only)Processes the Ad-Free payment where it is offered on Android. Not used in the iPhone and iPad app.
NeonDatabase for the optional web-version account only (see below). Not used by the phone apps.

We do not sell your personal information and do not share it with anyone else, except where the law requires it.

Accounts

The iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and Windows apps do not have accounts or sign-in. The web version at datahop.asoltu.com may offer an optional sign-in through a third-party identity provider; if you use it, we receive the name and email address that provider shares, plus a session cookie. It is never needed to send or receive a file.

Being discoverable

While discovery is on, DataHop devices on your network can see your device name, platform and public key and can offer you a transfer. An offer is only an offer: nothing is written to your device until you accept it. Trusted-only visibility hides you from every device you have not paired with. Auto-accept is off by default and applies only to devices you have explicitly trusted.

Your choices and rights

  • Delete local data: clear History and remove trusted devices in the app, or uninstall DataHop, which removes everything stored on the device, including the identity keys.
  • Ads: reopen the consent form under Ad privacy choices (where shown), or remove ads with Ad-Free.
  • Access, correction, deletion, objection: email info@asoltu.com. We will reply within 30 days. Because the phone apps keep no account and the relay keeps data only briefly and in memory, there is usually nothing on our side to look up, and we will tell you so. If you used the web sign-in we will delete that account on request.
  • If you are in the EEA, UK, India or another region with data-protection law, you also have the rights that law gives you, including the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

Security

File transfers use encrypted peer-to-peer connections. Connections to the relay use HTTPS. Private keys stay in the device's secure storage. No system is perfectly secure, so only accept files from devices you trust.

Where data is processed

The relay runs in India (Google Cloud, Mumbai) and is delivered through Google's worldwide network. Google may process ad data in other countries. The optional web-account database is hosted in Singapore.

Children

DataHop is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date above. A change that meaningfully affects how your data is handled will also be called out in the app's release notes. Your use of DataHop is also covered by our Terms of Use.
